Club Electric Blue was a well known go go bar on Patpong 2 open for fifteen years. It was just a few doors down from The Strip and a short walk to the Star of Light. Now it is a steakhouse. Or, it will be a steakhouse very soon when the construction now underway is finished.
I guess the place was no longer profitable. Patpong isn’t as lively as it used to be. Nana Plaza and Soi Cowboy have definitely taken over the go go bar scene in Bangkok. There is still fun to be had in Patpong though. And there are still people are too. I guess the people in the area now would rather have steak than look at scantly clad women on stage like a piece of meat.
The area around Patpong has always been mixed up. You have a large public park, some expensive top end hotels, a major business center, a gay bar area, a heavily Japanese area, and a very low rent backpacker strip. Oh yea, there are also the corner bars where women shoot ping pong balls out of their nether regions for tourists buying extremely overpriced drinks under the watchful eyes of aggressive bouncers.
As much as Patpong changes, it still remains the same. Linda Place and Rose Bar are still open every single day, even as the touristic night market is set up in Patpong next to the fading rows of go go bars. BarBar is still there too.
There is now a Club Electric Blue in Pattaya. It has been open for a few years. It seems pretty popular. I don’t think it will turn into a steakhouse anytime soon. Only time will tell though.
The British boss at Club Electric Blue was no newbie. He’s been around the block. If he thought it was time to pull the plug on Club Electric Blue he probably knew something that the rest of us don’t.
